Coastal Kayak Adventures Explore Lido Key  and the Mangroves with us!

Today is the day to get out and explore something new!

A Little About Us

Coastal Kayak Adventures is located at the Ted Sperling Park on Lido Key.  The Park, a true hidden gem of Lido Key, is only 10 minutes from busy downtown Sarasota and is managed by the County of Sarasota.  This tropical ecosystem includes mangrove islands and sea grass beds which serve as a marine nursery for Lido Key’s fish, animals and birds.

We selected Lido Key and the Park because it is well protected and perfect for easy paddling, anyone can do it!  No experience is necessary to enjoy this marine paradise. We will provide you with paddling tips for our kayaks and only use high quality sea kayaks with comfortable back rests. Our Ocean Kayaks are brand new, stable and easy-to-paddle.  These high tech kayaks are designed for riders up to 275 pounds and have a contoured nose section to cut through chop with more forward speed and a comfortable paddling position.

For our tours, we select the best routes for discovering the wonders found here depending on weather, wind and tide conditions. If you would rather, you can rent one of our kayaks and paddle at your own pace through sheltered winding mangrove trails, discovering native marine life, plants and birds of the Ted Sperling Nature Park. On any given day you will often see dolphins, manatees, turtles, and bright fish in the water, iguanas sunning in the trees and birds soaring overhead.  So, sit back and feel the tropical air kiss your skin, hear tropical bird calls around you while you explore nature with us.

Coastal Kayak Adventures was founded by Tyler Caporale after returning from military service in Afghanistan and our company returns a significant portion of our proceeds to support the Park and maintain the ecological marine environment!

Coastal Kayak Adventures was the dream of our founder and head tour guide - Tyler Caporale

Tyler Caporale

Owner/Tour Guide

Originally from Branford, Connecticut, Tyler left the Northeast after returning home from military service in Afghanistan. Since his return home from combat he has embraced his passion for nature and the ocean by moving to Sarasota.

He set off on a mission to provide everyone an opportunity to witness the natural marine beauty of Florida and actively participate in environmental preservation. His vision was to begin a small veteran owned and operated business to provide all of his guests the opportunity to find a closer connection with nature while having fun, being with friends and exploring new challenges through a kayaking adventure.

Tyler believes in providing his guests with the best quality equipment and guides with professional experience. It is his mission to treat all of his tours like he is paddling with new friends and he does his best to make sure everyone feels comfortable along the way. Whether you are new to kayaking or a more experienced paddler, Coastal Kayak Adventures are designed for everyone.

We’re are thankful we’ve been able to launch Coastal Kayak Adventures and look forward to providing unforgettable memories to all of our guests.

It would be our pleasure to have you join us.

Ted Sperling Park

Ted Sperling Park hosts one of the top rated kayak launches in the state, located at the north entrance to the park at 190 Taft Dr. Sarasota, FL.  Directly off the launch at the park is a vast system of mangrove forests and tunnels, easily navigated by beginners and experts to paddling. Manatees, dolphin, and other wildlife are commonly spotted by kayakers.

The kayak launch at Ted Sperling Park is free of charge and open to any visitors. The park is also the perfect location for kayaking and stand up paddle boarding! The calm waters of the bay make it the ideal location for beginners to this new watersport.  Our rentals and lessons are available year round.

Ted Sperling Park History

One of Sarasota’s early pioneers, Otto Zoldan, settled in Sarasota around 1904 at the southern end of what is now Lido Key. Eventually the property was sold to John Ringling during the 1920s.  Ringling renamed the island to what we know it as today, “Lido,” the Italian word for beach. He had great plans for the island and surrounding properties, however during the great Florida land bust of 1926, the projects all collapsed and were abandoned.

In 1977 Sarasota County purchased all of South Lido Park and beaches as part of the Save Our Bays movement. The park and beaches were determined to forever be used as public land meant for parks and recreation and a protected habitat of the environment. In 2009 the park was renamed to Ted Sperling park, named in honor of the county commisioner most responsible for the purchase of the land.

Lido Key and Ted Sperling Park

Enjoy discovering the famous Sarasota Bay around Otter Key in search of the gentle manatee or an encounter with bottlenose dolphins. Explore the shallow waters of Little Lagoon and navigate your way through the maze of exotic mangrove tunnels that lead you into the sun-filled grass flats of brushy bayou and Big Grass Lagoon. Along the way you will become acquainted with the creatures that call this ecosystem home. No alligators!

Explore the Exotic Mangrove Tunnels!

The mangroves off of Lido Key are one of the most popular kayaking spots in Sarasota for both locals and visitors. It’s no wonder why, either. Paddling your kayak through the mangrove tunnels will make you feel like you’re in a scene from a movie – it truly is a whole new world. All your troubles will melt away as you enter the tunnels.
